About Rwanda 2022 Empowerment Self Defense All-Gender Training (7/15-21/2022)
The Rwanda 2022 Empowerment Self Defense All-Gender Training (7/15-21/2022) will cover trainings for people living with Albinism; people living with different abilities; people from the LGBTIQ+ population; human rights activists; women from grassroots organizations; and people working on gender-based violence and gender-related issues.
ESD Global has a vision of a world where people can live safe, violence-free lives. To attain this vision, we teach inclusion and acceptance as well as respect of rights for all people, irrespective of their ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, social class, etc. We teach all people to stand up for their rights.
In Africa, as in many other parts of the world, many hostilities are faced by people living with Albinism, members of the LGBTIQ+ community, and people with different abilities. These hostilities range from name-calling / shaming, physical abuse, and banishment or imprisonment. Others even go as far as murder for ritual purposes. All this happens, even though the victims are law-abiding. Year after year, women also face harmful and oppressive practices; they are often indoctrinated to believe that this oppression is, and should be, a way of life for women.
Empowerment Self Defense (ESD) gives individuals the empowerment tools they need to say NO to things that make them uncomfortable or threaten their lives. It takes them off mute and gives them the willpower to prevent, fight back, and heal from all types of violence.
